Today I had an experience at the Emergency Department that left me quite upset and emotionally drained. I arrived in a lot of pain and have now been here for over 4.5 hours, still without being seen by a doctor.
When I first came in, they asked about my pain level. I explained that it was very high and rated it 10 out of 10 because I was genuinely struggling. Even so, I was only given a Panadol and asked to wait.
After about 3.5 hours, I finally had an X-ray done. It has now been over an hour since the X-ray, and I still haven’t received any update or medical assessment, just brief interactions with the nurses, who were kind but unable to do much more.
What made this experience even more difficult is that the waiting room was empty. Only one person was ahead of me, and throughout all these hours only one baby came through the emergency doors and he was sent inside to infant department.
When I asked for information, I was told the doctors were attending ambulance cases, but there was no communication, no clarity, and no reassurance.
Being in pain, worried, and waiting without any information is incredibly stressful. I understand emergencies can be busy and unpredictable, but a simple update or acknowledgement can make a huge difference for someone who is scared and hurting.
I truly hope the hospital can improve communication and patient care, because a little empathy goes a long way — especially in moments like this.

Our experience at SCUH has been nothing short of heartbreaking and infuriating. My partner has been to the emergency department three separate times, and each visit has been worse than the last.
The first time, she was made to feel completely dismissed by an ER doctor who seemed more interested in flexing his biceps than actually listening or providing care. The second time, she spent over 8 hours in extreme pain with no pain relief and no investigations done, just brushed off and sent home like she didn’t matter.
The third time, she was finally admitted, but things only got worse. She was given less pain relief than she receives at home, ignored by the gynecology team, and left in a ward for a week with no proper treatment, no investigations, and no compassion. She’s in severe pain and needs emergency surgery, but no one at SCUH seems to care enough to act.
This hospital has shown a complete lack of empathy, professionalism, and responsibility. Patients deserve to be heard, believed, and treated with dignity, not ignored and left to suffer. SCUH should be ashamed of how they treat people in pain. It’s honestly the worst hospital experience we’ve ever had.

I would like to write my experience at the hospital , firstly ambulance so caring and professional..then handed over to triage once again impressive..spent my stay in Ward 3 B cannot speak more highly of this ward best hospital stay ever…it was like like home away from home…all staff from coffee trolley to doctor treated me so nicely and attended to all my question and procedures with kindness. Don’t know my doctors name but he wore a bandanna best doctor ever…two stand out young nurses were Eve and Jazz formed a real bond with them, all nursing staff met all my questions and didn’t seem to mind ..l
I am so impressed and very contented. Thank you for making my experience one of the best ever all highly commended. Regards Patricia

I arrived mid afternoon at Emergency with a pounding heart, chest pain and restricted breathing. I have a heart problem history. Triage did an assessment and I was taken immediately for further testing. I was there for about 6 hours and given a variety of tests and intravenous supplements. Staff were efficient, professional and answered all questions in a way I could understand.
My thanks to all involved.

A Brand New life saving asset on the Sunshine Coast that delivers where it matters. World leading facilities and a real good feel and vibe give you the confidence you're in great hands. Comfortable beds, good meals and coffee shops, nice indoor and outdoor to walk around, definitely not the usual hospital we're all used to...
