Don’t use hinterland Accounting, they used to be a good accounting firm till the new owner came along,
They were giving false and misleading “Advice”, phone calls and emails left unanswered, and when they did answer the phone, they apparently charge for phone calls and emails. Really!!.
And when I decided to change accounting firms
They sent me this made up invoice for phone calls and correspondence, which had to be paid, for my documents to be released.
Im so glad that I’ve changed to a professional accounting firm and everything is back on track..

Businesses beware! We have used Hinterland Tax from when Brett was the owner. Used to be absolutely fantastic, could not fault it. Since being handed over to the new owner things have gone downhill. From all the staff that were incredible leaving, with the new owner being the only accountant left. We nearly got lead astray with the new owner, I won't mention the name, he changed our business set up to try and save us tax, leaving us a giant tax bill at the end. We have since changed accountants and are now in a really bad position leaving us extremely stressed. I wouldn't of posted this but after contacting the new owner today to advise him of this and wanting to understand if he was aware of this outcome as we don't recall being informed this. It resulted in a conversation with him being EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. Do yourself a favour and stay away.

We originally loved this accountant but once Brett the former principal left with no notification to clients - things spiraled. More staff left, emails and calls left un-answered, accounts becoming in arrears, terrible customer service from stressed staff who today advised me that not only had my accountant quit but so did 3 other accountants in the office. Behavior from the receptionist today was totally rude and uncalled for. Not usually one to leave a bad review but I was absolutely astounded by the treatment today. Would not recommend - businesses beware!

⭐ 1 star — RUN. Worst “accountant” experience in 31 years of business.
We first encountered ‘Rudy’ around 2010–2015 when he was advertising as a MYOB specialist on the Sunshine Coast. On that engagement, he destroyed our MYOB file through sheer incompetence — forcing us to purchase a new one at a cost of nearly $1,200. To make matters worse, he also charged us around $700 for that “service” — which resulted in nothing but damage and additional cost.
Fast forward to today — Rudy is now involved with Hinterland Accounting. We unknowingly engaged again after he purchased our previous accounting firm — which had been operated by true professionals. As soon as I connected the dots and recognised his name (I had it saved as NEVER HIRE), we ceased engagement.
We are an established business employing 75+ staff at peak periods and have been operating for over 30 years. In that time, Rudy is without question the most incompetent accountant (and individual) I have ever encountered. In my personal opinion, his advice was not only wrong — in some cases it bordered on conduct that I would consider highly questionable.
After paying for our 2024 returns, we were advised that they had been lodged — only to later discover this was false. We are in the process of lodging a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities and I am fully prepared to prove our experience in court, if required.
I am also aware that multiple staff have since left Hinterland Accounting, with reports of abusive behaviour and a complete lack of professionalism — another clear warning sign for any prospective client.
Finally — they refused to release our bookwork until we paid nearly $300 for a phone call (initiated by them) that lasted less than 20 minutes and, in our view, provided no meaningful value to our business.
I also note that the Entegra Shared Services Trust — through which this invoice was issued — lists involvement with the following firms:
Avance Gatton, Drew Stephenson Pty Ltd, FABsolutions, Hinterland Accountants & Advisors, Jtax, Latitude Tax & Advisory, and OBT Accounting & Tax.
Prospective clients should be aware of this and conduct their own due diligence before engaging with any related entity.
If you are a serious operator or a new player — I strongly recommend you avoid Hinterland Accounting while Rudy is involved. You have been warned.
RUN.
Bring on any litigation, Rudy. This country’s laws are amongst the strongest in the world to protect consumers and businesses from operators like you. I would be more than happy to test this in court.
In our experience, this operator took our money and failed to deliver what was promised. I truly hope this review helps protect others from experiencing what we have.
