Today I had an experience at the Emergency Department that left me quite upset and emotionally drained. I arrived in a lot of pain and have now been here for over 4.5 hours, still without being seen by a doctor.
When I first came in, they asked about my pain level. I explained that it was very high and rated it 10 out of 10 because I was genuinely struggling. Even so, I was only given a Panadol and asked to wait.
After about 3.5 hours, I finally had an X-ray done. It has now been over an hour since the X-ray, and I still haven’t received any update or medical assessment, just brief interactions with the nurses, who were kind but unable to do much more.
What made this experience even more difficult is that the waiting room was empty. Only one person was ahead of me, and throughout all these hours only one baby came through the emergency doors and he was sent inside to infant department.
When I asked for information, I was told the doctors were attending ambulance cases, but there was no communication, no clarity, and no reassurance.
Being in pain, worried, and waiting without any information is incredibly stressful. I understand emergencies can be busy and unpredictable, but a simple update or acknowledgement can make a huge difference for someone who is scared and hurting.
I truly hope the hospital can improve communication and patient care, because a little empathy goes a long way — especially in moments like this.

I would like to express my gratitude to all of the staff, emergency triage, nurses and doctors.
The emergency room was absolutely full with a 6-7 hours wait. I could see the nurses working so hard to handle the workload and the triage staff maintained their professionalism and kindness under these circumstances.
Once I was seen to, I was treated with respect, kindness and a high level of professional care by the nurses and doctors over the 2 night stay.
Due to the treatment I received and their high knowledge of emergency medicine, I am feeling much better and will have a life changing effect moving forward.
Thank you so very much.

Big thanks to the ED staff at SCUH. I sustained a large laceration to my face and the staff there were all very kind. The waiting time was luckily not too long even though they were running a skeleton staff on a public holiday. Dr Michael in ED did an excellent and very thorough job of carefully stitching my face back together. Thanks again!

We had to take my dad to the Emergency Department today and the Staff here were friendly and approachable. My dad was given a room, and had imaging done relatively quickly and then was seen by a lovely doctor. The Staff explained things to him clearly. Thank you to all the Staff that work here and reassured us today.

I was in Acute care on Boxing Day and the staff were amazing. As a nurse myself I was quite sick (Stage 4 liver cancer) with temps, nausea, pain, overwhelming fatigue all my tests were done within 4-5 hrs and the kindness I received was above and beyond. Dr Lizzie was amazing. If I cld remem my nurses names I wld love to commend them too. Thankyou so much SCUH
